The fruit of SELF-CONTROL

Are you living by the god of your feelings or the God of the Bible? Joyce Meyer

We are to be disciples of Christ. Ambassadors to the world.

Disciples: Called to a Relationship with God. The roots of biblical discipleship go deep into the fertile soil of God's calling. That calling is expressed in the pattern of divine initiative and human response that constitutes the heart of the biblical concept of covenant, manifested in the recurrent promise, "I will be your God, and you shall be my people." That call from Yahweh is reiterated in the call of Jesus, when he said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" God has called his people to represent him on the earth, to be with him in every circumstance of life, to be transformed in personal character to be like him. That calling is at the heart of biblical discipleship, both in the Old and New Testaments.

Some Christians have to work harder at self control than others. Phil 4:13

Gal 2:20 Not I but Christ who lives in me

1John 2:15-16 Lusts of the flesh, 2 Tim 4:3-5 The time will come, 1 Pet:13-15 Be obedient to Christ, Rom 8:18 With Christ in us, there is no condemnation, Rom 12:1-2 Renewing of your mind, Matt 28:18-20 Go therefore, Gal 5:16 Walk by the spirit, Rom 15:18 Teach what has been done for you, John 15:1-8 The true vine Christians are to be set apart, sanctified, salt and called out.

You can control your own body...

JUST SAY NO !!

The fruit of PATIENCE

We must learn to wait on God. Joyce Meyer
Certainly God answers prayer. Certainly He wants to give us good gifts and meet our needs, wants and far beyond.  However, our timing and His are two different things. We should pray and then give God the proper respect of choosing when the time is right.
He does not go by our clock!
So we must learn to have faith in God's promises. Jas 1:1-5
Faith and patience go hand in hand.

You cannot persevere if you never had a trial in your life. (Actually a lot of trials) No victories without battles, no peaks without valleys. We must carry the burden to get the blessing. When do blessings come?
Paul endured a thorn in the flesh 2 Cor 12:1-10  Why?

Why did the  Israelites wonder around so long in the wilderness?
Consider the patience of Job.
The Fruit of Patience is Character
Character is build by patience in suffering, patience is faith, faith is believing, believing is eternal life.

God has to balance privileges with responsibilities, blessings with burdens or else you and I will become spoiled, pampered children.
God wants us to mature as Christians.
So in a nut shell...We must:
GROW UP!

The fruit of HUMILITY

Pride comes before a fall Proverbs 16:18
Pride is the COMPLETE reverse of Humility.

Humility = meekness. The having a humble opinion of one's self and deep sense of ones (moral) littleness, modesty, humility, lowliness of mind. KJV Greek Lexion

Jas 1:19-22, Col 3:12, 1Pet 5:5, Jas 3:13 , Prov 3:34, Jam 4:6, 1Pet 5:5, Matt 23:12, Luke 1:52, 14:11, 18:114 Jam 4:10
The word Pride shows up 48 times in the Bible and almost always it is considered in a negative way. 1Tim 3:6, 1Jh 2:16

The sin God hates the worst is said to be PRIDE.

Who's pride was his greatest sin? What did it cost him? What in turn did it cost us?
Ezekiel 28:13-16, Is 14:12-16

Glorify the cross of Christ and not self-righteousness Phip 3:3-9

The Greek word "meekness" when applied to animals means "tame". Though they have retained all their strength they learned to control their destructive instincts that prevent them from living in harmony with others. Bakers Evangelical Dictionary
Meekness, gentleness, mildness or Humility is submission to God.
What Did Jesus Do?

Matt 20:28, Mark 10:45; Luke 22:27;Jh 13:1-16, Isa 53:7-8, Acts 8:32-33, Phip 2:5-11, Matt 11:28-30

GO AND DO LIKEWISE

The Fruit of JOY!

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Hab 3:18

Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." Ne 8:10

Happiness over an unanticipated or present good. In the Old Testament joy (Heb. sama [;j;m'f]) covers a wide range of human experiences—from sexual love (So 1:4), to marriage (Pr 5:18), the birth of children (Psalm 113:9), the gathering of the harvest, military victory (Isa 9:3), and drinking wine (Psalm 104:15).

On the spiritual level it refers to the extreme happiness with which the believer contemplates salvation and the bliss of the afterlife.

Unexpected benefits from God are expressed in terms of common experiences. The psalms express the joyous mood of believers as they encounter God. Believers rejoice because God has surrounded them with his steadfast love (32:11) and brought them to salvation (40:16; 64:10). David rejoices that God has delivered him from the hand of his enemies (63:11). Joy is a response to God's word (Psalm 119:14) and his reward to believers (Isa 65:14)

Joy belongs also to the realm of the supernatural. Angels rejoice at an unbeliever's conversion (Luke 10:20). Luke places three parables together in which God, in two instances with the angels, rejoices at the redemption. Upon finding the lost sheep, the shepherd rejoices (15:3-7). The woman rejoices upon finding the lost coin (15:8-10). The prodigal son's return brings rejoicing (15:11-32).

Paul speaks of his joy in the midst of affliction (2 Cor 7:4-16). It is a part of faith (Php 1:25). Joy expresses the relationship between the apostle and his congregations and an opportunity for thanksgiving (Rom 15:32; Php 2:28), with each rejoicing in the other. God's kingdom is described as "righteousness, peace and joy" (Rom 14:17).

Certainty of salvation is a cause for joy, as the disciples are commanded to "rejoice that your names are written in heaven" (Luke 10:20).

Fellowship with Jesus brings continuous joy (John 15-17).

The Fruit of PEACE !

Peace be unto you...my peace I give to you...John 14:27

When Jesus was born the angels said:"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" Luke 2:14

Jesus was a perfect example of the way we should live. Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, "Peace to you." Luke 24:36

He had tremendous peace. Once He went to sleep in a small fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee and continued sleeping through a terrible storm. When He was awakened, He said "Peace be still" Math 4:39 and the storm immediately subsided.
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." John 16:33

What makes you peaceful?

Lets see how these verses fit with the fruit of peace! 1Pet 3:10-11, Jam 3:17-18,Heb 12:14, 2 Tim 2:22, Eph 4:3, Col 1:20,Phil 4:7, 9, 2 Cor 13:11

In these verses, the Apostle Paul says it all...Phil 4:4-9

Bible Prophecy of peace:   For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor,  Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace Seven years before Christ returns to set up His kingdom of peace, Satan, the counterfeiter and super deceiver (1 Thes 2:4) will cause the Antichrist to present himself as the Messiah (or Christ) and he will be accepted! He will come into prominence and power by presenting a "world peace program" to the nations. The contracts are then signed and confirmed in Daniel 9:27.
When people are saying, "All is well; everything is peaceful and secure," then disaster will fall upon them as suddenly as a woman's birth pains begin when her child is about to be born. And there will be no escape. 1Thess 5:3

"May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,

guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" Phil 4:4-7
    Amen

THE FRUIT OF FAITHFULNESS

2Tim 2:11 This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him.

Many times over the faithfulness of God appears in Psalms and Proverbs
A few favorites: Ps 89:5, 8, 23, Ps 36:5, Ps 119:90, Prov 20:6
Heb 10:23 He who promised is faithful

1Pet 12:19 Christians are to intrust their very lives to God even in the midst of suffering.

Sometimes it's hard to be faithful. When we are suffering, worried, wondering where God went at times in our lives when everything is going wrong. But, our God is faithful, He sent His son Jesus to save us because He was faithful and merciful to us...
Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Yet, still, we are, sometimes faithless...

2Tim 2:13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

PRAISE GOD for His faithfulness!!!
