For our last lessons of Romans. CLICK HERE! We were studing New Testament Romans. Romans has the most complete summery of Christ's commission for the Church (Body of Christ) that is found in any one book of the Bible. It was written by the Apostle Paul as instruction to the early Church in Rome and is still as pertinent for us today. A testimony to God's Living Word.

The Holy Spirit's role in the Trinity
The word Spirit denotes the wind.
There are many words used in the Bible to describe the Holy Spirit.
 Here are a few:
Spirit of God, Holy Ghost, Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Spirit of Truth, and just Spirit.

To best understand the Holy Spirit's role in the Trinity we need to go back to the beginning, the Alpha, Creation. Genesis1:2, 1:26, 3:22, Ex 31:1-5, 1Sam 10:6-9, 2Sam 23:2, Isaiah 48:16
The Trinity parts: The Father is the unseen, omnipresent Source of all being, revealed in and by the Son, experienced in and by the Holy Spirit. The Son proceeds from the Father, and the Spirit proceeds from the Son.
With reference to God's creation: the Father is the Thought behind it, the Son is the Word calling it forth, and the Spirit is the Deed making it a reality. 1John 5:6-8
*With reference to Salvation: We "see" God and His great salvation in the Son of God, the Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. Then "experience" their reality by faith through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
Each 1/3 of the Godhead is distinct yet all three are one.
Or, All are a part of the total of the three but separate identitys at the same time.

The work of the Holy Spirit

Jesus said he would leave the Helper to be with us until He (Christ) returns for His Church. John 14:25-31, 15:26-27.
What will happen when Christ returns for His church and the Holy Spirit leaves with us?
The Holy Spirit, as it's various names suggest, wears many different hats! So could we say He is ominipresent (everywhere), omnipotence (all powerful), and omniscience (all knowing)?
See also: Acts 10:38-45 (the Helper comes as Jesus had said), Mat 28:19 Acts 11:16 (the commission given by Christ), 2 Cor 13:14 (trinitarian benediction), Col 2:9-10 (the Godhead), Titus 3:5 (Renewing of the Holy Spirit), 1Co 6:19 (You are not your own), Eph 1:13 (Sealed with the Holy Spirit), 1Jh 5:6-8 (the Three bearing record)
Rev 1:8 He is Alpha and Omega

The truth of God's tri-unity is ingrained into mans very nature. We need to feel the Creator and to experience His presence with-in us. But, this deep intuition of the Holy Spirit has been corrupted by many into various forms of false mysticism and fanaticism and even spiritism and demonism producing false gods/idolatry. Be very careful even the devil comes as an angel of light.

ROMANS CHAPTER 10

CHRIST IS THE END OF LAW AND GIVES HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS TO ALL WHO BELIEVE

"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 'I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' "And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' "I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted' Luke 18:10-14

Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth

Your heart is your total personality, your entire being, not just an internal organ

The "heart" stands for the inner being of man, the man himself. As such, it is the fountain of all he does (Prov. 4:4). All his thoughts, desires, words, and actions flow from deep within him. Yet a man cannot understand his own "heart" (Jer. 17:9). As a man goes on in his own way, his "heart" becomes harder and harder. But God will circumcise (cut away the uncleanness of) the "heart" of His people, so that they will love and obey Him with their whole being (Deut. 30:) Vines

                     ROMANS CHAPTER 11

God made a covenant with Israel.

God does not break a covenant. It is His word!

God foreknew all, Including the mystery.*

Read 11:1-10

FOREKNOWLEDGE - the unique knowledge of God that enables Him to know all events, including the free acts of people, before they happen.

God's foreknowledge is much more than foresight. God does not know future events and human actions because He foresees them; He knows them because He wills them to happen (Job 14:5; Ps. 139:15-16). Thus God's foreknowledge is an act of His will (Is. 41:4; Rev. 1:8, 17; 21:6).

In Romans 8:29 and 11:2, the apostle Paul's use of the word "foreknew" means "chose" or "to set special affection on." The electing love of God, not foresight of human action, is the basis of His predestination and salvation (Rom. 8:29-30, 33). This same idea is used to express the nation of Israel's special relationship to God (Acts 2:23; Rom. 11:2; 1 Pet. 1:2 Nelsons Bible Dictionary

(Remnant here is referring to people being saved within the nation of Israel, thus proving he had not abandoned them as His people.)

                                     Summary

No one is better Jew, Gentile, male or female in God's eyes. All have sinned.

 Col 3:15-17, Gal 3;28, Rom 9: 9-13

Therefore, do not feel that you are better than anyone else in the body of Christ.

Yet, who cannot see His mercies?

ROMANS CHAPTER 12

This chapter begins the final division of the book of Romans that outlines duty for the body of Christ. Chapter 12 deals with the relationships to God, the gifts of the Spirit, to believers and unbelivers.

Vs21"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good"

Rom12: 1Surrender your body Gen 2:7, Eccl 12:7, 2Cor 8:5, 1Cor 6:13-17, 18-20

         As a living Sacrifice Gal 2:20-21, Rom 6:13-14, 6:4. 1Cor 6:20.

We are all sinners. However, when we repent of our sin (change our mind) and accept the free gift of Salvation from God through the sacrificed sinless blood of Christ, we are then accepted by God in the Beloved.

Therefore, He does not see our sin, it has been paid for by that shed blood of Jesus once and for all. Instead, He sees us as the righteousness of His perfect Son Jesus Christ.

2Cor 5:21

So now we are God's child with our home assured in Heaven. Let us then be transformed into Christ's ambassadors here on earth as our reasonable service to our merciful, loving Father.

See Rom 3:21-24, Tit 3:5, 2Cor 5:20-21

and  Rom 12: 2 And be ye not conformed to this world  instead simply; DO WHAT HONERS GOD. 1 Cor 15;33-34, 2Cor 5:9-10, 15,17, 2Cor 7:17 (Isa 52:11)

The gift of the Holy Spirit given to all believers will help us resist temptation (1Cor 10:13), guide and shape our thought and behavior, if we allow It to. Rom 8:5, 9, Phil 4:13

"Gift" charisma "a gift of grace, a gift involving grace" the word which comes from the          same stem (charis) as the word for grace. Vines

Rom 12:3-8 Don't think more highly of yourself than you ought God's Grace is given to all believers and all gifts to us come from His grace. God has given everyone one or more gifts that can be used in His service. Dealt to each one a measure of faith…Eph 4:7-8, 1 Pet 4:10-11.

So…All spiritual gifts from God to believers are to be used to build up the Church and encourage one another. All believers are Church members making up the body of Christ and each one is needed to complete the whole.

Rom 12:9-16 Let love be without hypocisyBehave like a Christian

Hupokrites is the Greek word for actor. It means to answer back (take your cue, play the part) Does this sound anything like a Hypocrite?

Rom 12:17-21 Vengeance is Mine Deut 32:35

Lord let us not be snooty as we strive to honor you and separate ourselves from the world. Let us instead be Christ's ambassadors to the unbelievers that they may see your light shining through us. Even though we make mistakes every day, may you turn our mistakes around for your glory. In Jesus name. Amen

ROMANS CHAPTER 13

Even though we are Citizens of Heaven through re-birth in Christ, we are still called to be citizens this world.

Rom 13:1-7 Submit to government authority Paul wrote this while the evil roman emperor Nero was in power (54-68AD). Even though Nero tormented and killed Christians, Paul still exhorted the church in Rome to submit to his authority because it was ordained by God Himself.  And we think we have it bad!

    1. 13:4 Did God authorize capital punishment?

ROMANS CHAPTER 14

The Christians principals of conduct

The mature Christian is not to judge the less mature Christian nor to enter into dispute with them because the Father has accepted them.

"No man is an Island"

(In Paul's day, new believers had not fully grasped the free gift of grace concept. They were still falling back on legalism. This meant they looked at their mature brothers and saw them doing something they were set free to do and could be setback in their faith because of that act.)Mat 7:1, Luke 6:37, 1Cor 4:3

1. What does this equate to today in our lives?

    2. What are some examples?

All will be judged appropriately either, the believer, (at the Judgment seat of Christ 1Cor 3:11)or, the non-believer, (at the final Great White Thrown Judgement Rev 20:11-15). None will escape His full intimate knowledge of each of us. 2 Cor 5:10

For God said:"Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess" Isa 45:23-24, Phil 2:10-11

Therefore, (1Cor 8: 9-13) as those of us who are free and in so wish to walk with God, glorify Him, serve Him and let His light shine through us, we must be careful not to cause our brothers and sisters in Christ to stumble. Just remember all the Christian joy they are missing because of legalism (guilt).(Gal 3:13-14) We pray that they will study the word with an understanding heart & mind and in that, listen to God speaking to them so that they will come to the full knowledge of His grace (Eph2: 8-9) and peace to them.  Amen (So be it)

"Study to show thyself approved" 2Tim 2:15

ROMANS CHAPTER 15

The strong are to help the weak; All are to glorify God together

Gal 6:1-2, 1Cor 9:22-23 (Strong helping the weak)

Phil 2:5-8 (Jesus glorified God rather than Himself)

1Cor 1:10, Acts 4:24 (No division, all praise together)

To whom was the Son of God sent?

Matt 15:24, 2Cor 1:20

Why did Jesus become a servant to the Jews?

One reason was to fullfill the promice to Arabrahm.   It is written:

Reference to RomVs 9; 2Sam 22:50 & Ps 18:49, Vs 10; Deut 32:43, Vs 11;Ps 117:1, Vs 12; Is 11:1, 10

Paul demonstrates here that Gods purpose has always been to bless the Gentiles through Israel.

Also see: Eph 2:14-22 & Rom 3:1 & 9-18

Paul was hindered from being with the church in Rome that he is writing to here because God had need of him among the unbelievers, those who had not heard the "Good News".

Instead of being in his comfort zone, he was imprisoned many times and endured much hardships and ridicule for preaching the word of God to the heathen (us Gentiles).

Are you staying in your comfort zone or are you stepping out in faith? Thank God for Paul's humble obedience.

ROMANS CHAPTER 16

Twenty Six persons are mentioned to be greeted

and/or commended as having positions with-in the Body. The word Servant is a word used for the office of Deacon. Vines Phil 1:1, 1 Tim 3: 8-12 The word Helper means patron or benefactor.

Avoid those who would divide the Church body.

Strife, rivalry, dissention, offences, snares, gossip with-in the Body of Christ/Church members (remember Christ's church is not a building) all cause stumbling blocks to both the believer and non-believer.

Our world conceived, so-called "Un-Christianlike" behavior, can turn non-believers off before

Jesus has a chance to turn them on.

Titus 3:10-11, 2Tim 3:1-6, 2 Thess 3:6, 1Cor 5: 9-13

Discuss above verses, are these considered judging?

What is the difference between admonishing and judging?

Benediction

Paul ends the epistle of Romans with the resounding message which is administered through-out the Book of Romans as well as his entire ministry

to the Gentiles and Jews alike:Rom 3:25-30

ALL are ONE in Christ Jesus: Gal 3:26-29

The MYSTERY kept secret since the world began:

Rom 11:25-28, Eph 1:9-12, Eph 3:1-7, Col 1;26-27

To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

The most frequent re-accruing loves of the Bible:
Love of Christ
Love of God
Love one another
Love your enemies
Love your neighbor

Most famous God love verse is John 3:16

1 Cor 13:1-8 Without love, there is nothing! Love never fails.
Love word Study The Greek word for love is "agape" This word was rarely used in Greek literature prior to the New Testament where it took on special meaning. It designated a volitional love as opposed to the purely emotional kind. It is a self-sacrificial love, a kind naturally expressed by God but not as easily by men and women.

We are Loved by the One who IS Love.
We were made in His image, we were purchased by His love, we were forgiven and received undeserved mercy by His love, We are chastened in His love, we are made perfect in His site and thus may enter heaven through the grace which is His love.
We are asked to do nothing to earn His love except to "Go and do likewise".

Let all you do be done with love"
